MPO

What is Myeloperoxidase?

MPO is a special type of protein found in the body that cause chemical changes. MPO is typically stored in a certain type of WBCs. These cells release MPO when blood vessels are damaged or become inflamed.

MPO increases the risk of heart-attack in several ways:
1.MPO changes low-density lipoprotein (bad cholesterol) into an even more harmful form that gets collected as plaque in our arteries.
2.MPO production leads to the damage of our artery wall.
3.MPO hinders the protective effects of high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol).

Clinical application of Myeloperoxidase

Elevated MPO indicates an inflammatory response in vulnerable coronary artery plaques and can be used as a marker for stable ischemic heart disease and AMI. In the occurrence and development of atherosclerotic diseases, MPO is involved in everything from endothelial damage, lipid deposition, abnormal intimal proliferation to plaque formation and rupture. MPO and the inflammatory pathways it mediates promote atherosclerosis. The formation of hardening.

MPO is a novel predictor of adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute coronary syndrome. For patients with myocardial infarction who have normal electrocardiogram performance, MPO can identify those patients who are at higher risk of future cardiovascular events and can issue an early warning 3 hours before myocardial infarction occurs.

MPO is an important indicator in judging the prognosis of acute coronary syndrome and can predict the future probability of cardiovascular disease in healthy people over 35 years old to a certain extent. It is also a marker of vascular inflammation

MPO-negative patients have a lower missed diagnosis rate than patients who test negative for cTnI. Patients with early chest pain may have negative cTnI values, but monitoring elevated MPO values can predict a significant increase in their risk of cardiovascular disease.
